Stretching far beyond the castle walls, Windsor Great Park is one of England's most breathtaking royal landscapes and one of Windsor's most rewarding and underrated experiences.
The Park encompasses some of the most beautiful countryside in the south of England, including the enchanting Savill Garden, the stunning Virginia Water lake, the tranquil Valley Gardens and the world famous Long Walk stretching majestically from Windsor Castle itself. With the exception of the Savill Garden, entry to all areas is completely free.
The Long Walk is perhaps the Park's most iconic feature a perfectly straight, tree-lined avenue stretching nearly three miles from the castle gates to the Copper Horse statue of King George III at the top of Snow Hill. Do not be deceived by how close the statue appears from the castle it is a proper walk. But the reward at the top is one of the finest views in England, with Windsor Castle framed perfectly in the distance below you.
Many visitors to Windsor never discover the Great Park at all. That is their loss - and your opportunity. Lace up your walking shoes, follow the Long Walk and discover the royal landscape that has inspired kings, queens and artists for centuries.
